Why this hub does not publish a “current” cost table

A number can be accurate on one patch and misleading after the next. Blizzard's 1.5.0 notes document a Helltide cost change for a particular world-tier context. The publisher's consolidated patch notes later describe Helltide reward changes. These are useful primary records of change, but neither is a timeless contract for every live option. A current player can observe a cost directly; LootCalc should not replace that evidence with a stale season preset.

What the calculator can establish

With a user-supplied cinder budget, two current costs, planned counts, consistent option values, and a full session duration, the calculator can establish planned spend, remaining resources or shortfall, total scenario value, user-defined value per cinder, and value per hour. These are deterministic consequences of the inputs. A second person can reproduce them from the shared URL.

What the calculator cannot establish

It cannot discover chest contents, assign a gold price to retained gear, infer a unique-item probability, detect a hotfix, or prove that a route is best. It does not convert a season label into game data. It also cannot make two incompatible valuations comparable: a score that counts crafting materials for one option but omits them for another produces a biased comparison even if the arithmetic is correct.

The minimum evidence packet

Keep the following beside each scenario so the calculation remains inspectable:

  • verification date, client patch or season label, platform, and relevant activity state;
  • a screenshot or transcription of each visible option and cinder cost;
  • the definition and source of the shared value or utility unit;
  • the complete start and stop boundary for session time;
  • planned counts, exclusions, interruptions, and any change made between comparisons;
  • the share URL and, when applicable, the official patch note that motivated a correction.

Separate resource planning from loot forecasting

“Can this budget open the planned options?” is a deterministic question. “What will those options contain?” is a probabilistic question that needs a versioned reward distribution. Combining the two without evidence makes precise-looking output untrustworthy. The current tool answers the first question and accepts a value chosen by the user; it does not pretend that the value is an official expected return.

How the correction changed the cluster

Earlier pages mixed fixed Mystery and Regular costs, route timings, item-tier claims, seasonal presets, fabricated example observations, and unsupported gold-equivalent EV. Four overlapping articles repeated those assumptions. They now redirect to one source-linked guide, while the retained calculator exposes only values the user can verify or deliberately define. This makes the smaller cluster more useful than a larger collection of mutually reinforcing guesses.
